The Challis Mountain Lilac Festival was started with the goal of bringing outside dollars into the community. The Lilac Festival mission statement states a dual purpose. One is to serve local businesses and non-profit organizations by attracting visitors to Challis during the months of May and June. This is a beautiful time of year with breezes scented by endless lilacs. The second purpose of the festival is to promote family oriented community involvement for the benefit of area residents. Throughout the festival local businesses, organizations and residents will welcome visitors and encourage them to explore the historical heritage of Challis, the ranching and mining industries of Custer County, the Salmon River corridor and the Frank Church Wilderness Area.
